Day Four: The Busiest and Biggest

RIPE 56With eight working group sessions taking place, Thursday was one of the busiest days of the week at RIPE 56.

For the first time in RIPE Meeting history, the number of attendees checked-in since Monday reached over 400, making RIPE 56 the biggest meeting so far. There were plenty of presentations and discussions throughout the day, details of which can be found online shortly.

Address Policy Working Group Update

The following proposals were discussed in Thursday’s Address Policy Working Group Session:

  • Proposals 2008-01, “Assigning IPv6 PI to Every Inetnum Holder” and 2008-02, “Assigning IPv6 PA to Every LIR”: These proposals were withdrawn by the proposer after discussion in Wednesday’s session.
  • 2006-01, “Provider Independent IPv6 Assignment for End User Organisations”: There will be a new round of documentation incorporating the input of Thursday’s discussions.
  • 2006-05, “PI Assignment Size”: Further discussion will take place on the mailing list.
  • 2008-03, “Global Policy for the Allocation of the Remaining IPv4 Address Space”: No consensus was reached. The discussion will continue on the mailing list.
  • 2007-09, “Cooperative Distribution of the End of the IPv4 Free Pool”: More discussion will take place on the mailing list.
  • 2007-08, “Enabling Methods for Reallocation of IPv4 Resources”: More discussion will take place on the mailing list. Aligning this proposal more with the proposals that are active in other regions is being considered.

Secret Working GroupRIPE 56 flags

The Secret Working Group were believed to be hanging around in hallways and dark corners on Thursday, gathering material for a report that may or may not occur during the Closing Plenary on Friday morning.

Prize Winners

The winner of the RIPE NCC Services Centre prize draw and the winner of Tuesday’s IPv6 survey will be announced in the Closing Plenary.
